The Early Morning Centre (EMC) provides a safe space for some of our city’s most vulnerable people. With the help of dedicated volunteers, we provide a much-needed service that is more than just a meal. Our guests are provided with a place where they feel safe and respected, where they have a voice and can be heard, where they are part of a community that supports them.
See how you can help us continue to support vulnerable people in our community…
Our volunteers are the life-blood of our organisation, we simply couldn’t function without them. If you want to join a team of passionate, dedicated and caring volunteers, the EMC is for you.
We have two main volunteering opportunities: preparing and serving breakfast from 7am to 9am on weekdays, or working in the community hub for a few hours between 9am and 2pm on weekdays or 9am and 1pm on weekends.
We ask for a commitment of a shift per week or fortnight. The breakfast shift is great for people working full time as you can finish up in time to get to work.
If you want to join a team of passionate, dedicated and caring volunteers, the EMC is for you!
To find out more about becoming a volunteer please email us, give us a call on 6247 5041 or drop in and have a chat with our team.
We’re currently seeking volunteers for a range of unique opportunities, such as an instructor for our guitar jam sessions and cooking class and more. We can be flexible to work around your schedule. Please email us to find out more and get involved.
All donations help us continue to provide essential services and support to our guests. You can choose to make a one-off or recurring donation.
You will be directed to the Hands Across Canberra website to make a secure online donation.
By making a donation you will become a Friend of the EMC. As a Friend, you will be part of a group of like-minded people who share the vision of the EMC to support vulnerable people in our community. Another fun option and great team-building exercise is to run a BBQ for our guests. We provide the BBQ and the guests, you provide the food and your team. To find out more and get involved, please email us or give us a call on 6247 5041.
You could hold a morning tea or dress-up day at your workplace, or even cycle from one side of Australia to the other, like one of our volunteers recently did! You can either collect cash donations or set up a fundraising event on MyCause.
Funds raised go directly to supporting our guests. Fund-raisers will receive a certificate of appreciation.
If you’re planning a fundraiser, we’d love to hear about it! Please send us an email or call us on 6247 504.

Homelessness is more than just rooflessness. A home provides a sense of security, stability, privacy and safety.
Often people don’t realise how easy it is to become homeless. Many of us are one or two crises away from experiencing homelessness; the death of a loved one, sickness, injury or job loss can lead to people being unable to afford to buy food, pay bills and rent.
Talk about the EMC to your friends, family and colleagues. Help raise awareness of the issues faced by people experiencing homelessness.
