Governor-General visit on International Volunteer Day 2019
We were very excited to host a visit from the Governor-General and his wife in recognition of International Volunteer Day, on Thursday, 5 December 2019.
Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Hurley assisted our volunteers to serve breakfast, spoke with guests and volunteers, and took a tour of the centre.
We are very grateful to the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley for helping us celebrate the incredible work of our volunteers!
About International Volunteer Day
International Volunteer Day (IVD) mandated by the UN General Assembly, is held each year on 5 December. It is viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organisations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values, and to promote their work among their communities.
It is an opportunity to raise awareness of the important role that volunteers play in responding to challenges facing the world.
Volunteers are the life-blood of our organisation; the EMC simply couldn’t function without them.
EMC Director, Nicole Wiggins, said “The services provided at the EMC would not be possible without the many volunteers who contribute towards the service.”
“The dedication of time and commitment is very much appreciated by all EMC staff, board members and guests. We have a wonderful crew of volunteers and we are very grateful to each and every one of them for their ongoing support. On International Volunteer day I would personally like to extend my sincerest gratitude and thanks to all EMC volunteers for the wonderful work they do,” said Nicole.
“The EMC volunteers are always very friendly and welcoming which keeps me and others coming back. A big thank you to all the EMC volunteers on International Volunteer Day,” said an EMC Guest.
